Portland CROP Walk
St. James Lutheran Church in downtown Portland is inviting everyone to join us for the Portland CROP Walk on Sunday, April 29, from 2:00-4:00pm. This is an interfaith event and we want as much Lutheran participation as possible to raise awareness about global and domestic hunger; details about the event are below!
Portland CROP Hunger Walk
Date: Sunday, April 29, 2012
Location: SW Park Ave. and Market St., in front of Portland State University
Walk: 2:00 pm
The walk itself is 2.7 miles, down to the Waterfront and back up the Park Blocks. Please consider using public transportation or carpooling to the event as there is limited parking downtown. Seventy-five percent of the funds raised will go to Church World Service's international relief and development programs. Fifteen percent will go to Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon's Northeast Emergency Food Program at Luther Memorial and ten percent to Oregon Food Bank-West.
Refreshments will be served at First Christian Church of Portland, 1314 SW Park Avenue Portland, OR 97201 after the event. Those who are unable to walk the entire course can participate in alternate event activities held at First Christian Church. Restrooms will be available from 1:00-4:00 p.m. for participants. Walkers are encouraged to stay downtown and attend the Bach Cantata Vesper Service at St. James, 1315 SW Park Ave., which begins at 5:00pm.
We have set a fundraising goal of $500, and have been approved for 2:1 matching funds from the NE Chapter of Thrivent. Please consider walking with us or donating to the St. James team. Stay up to date with information regarding this event on the Portland CROP Walk Facebook site by clicking here.
